To help those who help others

Following the death of Chase Passauer in 2016, family and friends chose to honor his life and memory by creating two scholarship funds through the University of Minnesota Foundation. In 2017, the first Chase Passauer Memorial Golf Tournament was held with proceeds going towards the establishment of these scholarships. Although these scholarship fund goals have been met, direct gifts to the University of Minnesota are still being accepted.

Following our 2nd tournament in 2018, the $50,000 law school scholarship fund goal was met.

In 2018, Chase’s close group of friends started the Chase Passauer Memorial Scholarship and took on the emotional but rewarding challenge of choosing several Hastings High School seniors to receive scholarships to further their education. Following another successful tournament in 2019, the CAP Foundation took over funding these annual scholarships, with 18 awarded through May 2024.

Although we did not have a tournament in 2020, we were able to support local restaurants who provided free lunches for children while schools were closed during the pandemic.

The proceeds from the 2021 tournament were used to start a fund for an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) program for local businesses, coordinating with the Hastings Fire Department Relief Association and Allina Health for support. Our first three AEDs were placed at Dugarels, Busted Nut, and Starkson...

At our 2022 tournament, we presented a $25,000 check to our guests from the University of Minnesota Foundation to fully fund the undergraduate education scholarship in Chase's name.

We did not hold a tournament in 2023 due to family obligations/availability of our core team and volunteers. Our AED program expanded by placing units at Hastings Depot, Carbones, and Daycare... We awarded scholarships to two more Hastings High School seniors.

2024 will be the final Chase Passauer Memorial Golf Tournament. Our original goal was to have an annual tournament for five years, but we have decided to extend it by one more year to increase the impact of our AED program and scholarship awards. We will continue to listen for the call to support programs that serve education, local community, youth, and families; to help those who help others as Chase would do.
